Carbon Monitoring And Assessments

Wildlands has been involved with carbon monitoring and assessment from an early stage. We have set up and measured more than 1000 carbon monitoring plots since 2002, in the North and South Islands. We have also undertaken other large projects to evaluate the suitability of land and vegetation for carbon storage and accumulation. Our team is well versed in the requirements and guidelines for carbon monitoring and sequestration.

We can help you assess the possibilities for carbon sequestration on your land:

  • advice on which areas comply with the regulations;
  • defining and mapping sites that are most likely to produce a net gain;
  • guidance as to which sites are most suitable for retirement from grazing;
  • assess which animal or plant pests need to be controlled to maximise net carbon storage;
  • a range of revegetation and native restoration techniques to enhance carbon sequestration sites.

We undertake a wide range of monitoring and can help establish the necessary monitoring of carbon sequestration.  We also work collaboratively with Scion (a Crown Research Institute) when more technical data analysis and other input is required.

We can provide mapping and assessment services, to assess whether areas qualify under the ETS, such as the inland Wanganui site shown above.
